(Un)Coupled reflects on the raw and poignant journey of uncoupling. While traditional societal norms pressure partnership, this piece explores the aspects of yourself that are discovered and rediscovered when a partnership ends. With original composition by composer in residence Stefania de Kenessey, the work reveals the emotional layers of parting ways—the darkness, the loneliness, the fear, and the eventual empowerment.

She is a dance that delves into the emotional waves of motherhood. In collaboration with female costume designer Marianna Tsartolia, this compelling work is set to a unique soundscape of layering breast pump sounds by female composer Stefania de Kenessey. The choreographic juxtaposition of anguish and joy, one mother’s depression and communal bonding, is echoed by the paradox of the music. The choreography grows out of Ariel Grossman’s own postpartum depression, aggravated by the difficulty in breastfeeding her second child.

Althea Dance Company

“Soloïde” is a choreographed quartet by Thea Bautista that explores a world where technology and information are omnipresent, and exam- ines how individuals react to this environment, which can sometimes be oppressive.

“Lazar” is a dance piece by Thea Bautista, inspired by an experimental novel written by French author Olivier Benyahya. The choreography embodies the words of the novel, creating a resonant exploration that brings the literary work to life on the stage. Presented in New York, France and Mexico, the performance captures the essence of the ex- perimental narrative through movement.

The piece is an original choreographic project by choreographer Thea Bautista in collaboration with new media textile artist Chloe Bensahel and creative coder Jonathan Tanant. Using emerging textile wearable technologies, it focuses on the many stories told by a body and the space around it, using dance as a means of activation.
